V3 Sports has appointed Malik Rucker to the new role of Executive Director. V3 Sports is a non-profit that is developing a new community-inspired health and wellness destination focused on elevating the physical, emotional, and social well-being of North Minneapolis residents through fitness, educational programming and community gatherings. The first phase of the V3 Center is scheduled to open Spring 2024, while progress is being made to break ground for Phase Two.

“On behalf of our Board, we are excited to announce Malik Rucker as the Executive Director of V3 Sports,” said Board Chair Analyah Schlaegar dos Santos. “Having grown up in North Minneapolis, he is familiar with the impact V3 Sports will have in our community. Malik is an excellent choice to lead V3 Sports into our next evolution, as he understands the role sports play in connecting with community, social capital and opening doors. Our Founding Director, Erika L. Binger, and our Board look forward to our continued partnership.”

Malik has been part of V3 Sports since March 2020. He most recently served as Director of Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement, where he worked with the community to ensure V3 Sports aligns with the needs, and lifts up the voices of North Minneapolis residents, whether it’s to maintain their fitness, gain access to programs that teach water safety and other life skills, take advantage of out of school time and STEAM options for young people, or serve as a gathering place for community members.

“I’m a fifth generation Northsider,” said Rucker. “I was born and raised here. North is so vibrant and diverse. It’s about community, art, family, and love. V3 Sports is the perfect place for me to be, to bring the energy of this community together to offer young people and families opportunities to learn, grow and support each other.”
